Once in a village, lived a woman who used to make chapati for her family members and would always make one extra chapati for any hungry passerby and used to keep that extra chapatti on window sill of her kitchen, for whosoever needed, would take it.

One day, a beggar came and took chapati and before leaving he muttered, “Evil you do Remains with you, The Good you Do, Comes Back to you.”

Woman listened to those words and found it rude that instead of expressing gratitude, that man muttered such words.

This started to happen daily, Every day beggar would come and pick that chapati from window sill and utter those words, “Evil you do Remains with you, The Good you Do, Comes Back to you.” before leaving.

Woman felt irritated and thought to herself, “Everyday, this beggar utter these words. What does it even mean?”

One day, exasperated, she decided to get rid of this beggar. She thought of a plan.

Next day, while preparing extra chapati she added poison to it. As she was about to keep it on window sill, her hands trembled.

“What is this I m doing?”,she said to herself.

Immediately she threw that poisoned chapati into fire and prepared fresh chapati and kept it on window sill. As usual beggar came and picked up chapati and muttered words, “Evil you do Remains with you, The Good you Do, Comes Back to you.”

Saying this beggar continued on his way, unaware of war raging in mind of woman.

Everyday, as woman placed chapati in window sill, she would pray for her son safety who had gone to a far dstant place for work. For many months she had no news of him. She would always pray for his safe return.

That evening, there was a knock on door of woman’s house. As she opened it, she was surprised to find her son standing in the doorway. He had grown lean, his garments were tattered.

As he saw his mother, he said, “Mother, it’s a miracle. I am here. While was but a mile away, I was so famished that i collapsed. I would have died but just then an old beggar passed by and when he saw me there, he was kind enough to offer me water and whole chapati.

As he gave it to me he said, “This is what i eat everyday. Today, i shall give it to you, for your need it greater than mine..!”

As her mother heard those words, her face turned pale and she leaned against door for support. She remembered that poisoned chapati that she had made in morning for old beggar, had she not burnt it in the fire, it would have been eaten by her own son, he would have lost his life.

Then she realized significance of words, “Evil you do Remains with you, The Good you Do, Comes Back to you.”

Moral:
Do Good and Don’t Ever stop Doing Good Even if it is not Appreciated at that Time.
